Where are the hot restaurants opening?

POSTED: Saturday, December 1, 2012, 11:33 PM

Just updated my map of Philadelphia-area restaurant openings. Red dots signify restaurants that have opened in the last year. Other colors indicate restaurants that are on the horizon.

See the map here. (Easy-to-remember link is philly.com/mikesmap.)

Cute little map that tells me absolutely nothing about the restaurant.

Details about the restaurant would at best be secondary to the objective of the map, however it may be nice for a high level grouping as to type, if you did want another dimension mapped. Anything too detailed on the overall map would just be messy and miss the point.

Being a tech geek, I investigated the map and found that if you click on the link (i.e., See the map here); expand the map to see details of the area your interested in; mouse over the pin and you'll see the restaurant name; double click and get more info.

As for moretea4me, I've done a little traveling around the world and have noticed that people in other countries eat out quite a bit and use tools like this map to find new places. Just wondering about the basis for your guarantee.

This is a terrific new feature for philly.com, although some die hards who used to steal their next door neighbor's newspaper instead of subscribing helped to put the emphasis on the new media. But as these neanderthals die off and are replaced by less bitter, younger human beings, philly.com will be even more enjoyable without the constant whining. Part of the fun of life is going on an adventure to try something new. Going out to a restaurant just to see what it's like is a lot less dangerous than invading a foreign country just because you can. Thanks for the tip, when I get around to using a smart phone, I am sure this will handy on the fly. But, sitting at my desk with a tower is just fine for me now. Keep up the good work!!

Tietra Located at 231 S. 15th Street Philadelphia, PA is a great new Italian restaurant that just opened a couple months back. They place is outright gorgeous that goes along with good food and affordable prices. Been there 5 times in 2 months and plan to make it a regular place.

In 1.75 years the map of restaurant closings will look quite similar.

This "map" is a ridiculous attempt at information.

The location for In Riva is way off- you have it in Fox Chase, but the address is on Ridge Avenue.

I never try anything new. Spending good money on something and when they bring it to the table it tastes disappointing can add up to an expensive taste test. I stick to what I know that's been in business for years.

But, if you can write meals off all the time as part of your work, why not? More power to those of you who use that trick.
