Apple has secured a Center City location (the former TD Bank at 1607 Walnut St.) and last month the computer giant gained the approval of the city Art Commission to redo the facade.

All is needs to do now is make the official announcement. And start construction.

A company spokesman today said he didn't know when that would be, but acknowledged that Apple is hiring for the Walnut Street location.

It is looking for a store manager, assorted Geniuses, and staffers. Here is the link.

Apple, with 283 stores worldwide, 221 in the United States, typically pulls some staff from other nearby locations. Its most recent opening was March 2008 in Cherry Hill Mall.

It's about time. Manhattan has four stores: one in SoHo, one on the Upper West Side, the main one on 5th Avenue, and the other on the west side at 14th Avenue. Hopefully the one in Philadelphia will have the great architecture of those stores.

Springboard would be able to survive. If you kindly remember, there are stores within car and bus access in Ardmore and King Of Prussia. Having the store on Walnut Street will expand and broaden Apple's brand awareness and may even INCREASE Springboard's business! Remember, Springboard does a great deal of services in addition to sales. Springboard also caters to high end applications for organizations and where Apple's retail storefront caters to all consumer and most pro level business, there will be some items that the Apple store will not have, which Springboard might have! Take it from the Appleman!

Good point Appleman. What about Brother's Typewriter? I see them going under cause of this.

Well, micki360, the thing with word processing typewriters and regular typewriters are going to be eventually extinct and many would agree in the tech world, that computers are the next step in the evolution for word processing. Now if brother was to step up and build a line of computers, which they would be most unlikely. maybe they could keep some of the market. What Brother should place their core focus on printers and the other office supply products in their catalog.
