Wahlburgers coming to Northern Liberties

The former Darling's Diner on Second Street at Germantown Avenue at the Piazza at Schmidt's, which closed last spring, is now a construction site.

From certain signs - notably a tweet showing Mark Wahlberg being taped in his food truck for his A&E TV series Wahlburgers - it appears likely that the Piazza at Schmidt's will be the home of the Philadelphia area's first Wahlburgers restaurant.

The former Darling's Diner on Second Street at Germantown Avenue, which closed last spring, is now a construction site. Blogger HughE Dillon posted a rumor of the site yesterday.

Wahlburgers, the up-and-coming Boston-area burger bar, is fronted by brothers Mark, Donnie and Paul Wahlberg and run by CEO Rick Vanzura. Artie Giordano, a local, is the Philadelphia-area franchisee.

Mark Wahlberg is in town to host Saturday's "Festival of Families" event on the Parkway. Company officials are not talking. It's likely that they don't want commerce to interfere with Wahlberg's part in the religious observance. It's likely to open in January or February.
