Verdad seems to be closed

Chef Nick Farina - the public face of Verdad, the sultry Latin/Spaniard in Bryn Mawr - has left, and it's unclear which direction the restaurant will be taking.

A little Main Line restaurant intrigue:

Chef Nick Farina - the public face of Verdad, the sultry Latin/Spaniard in Bryn Mawr - has left, and it appears that the restaurant has closed.

"This is never an easy decision to leave my restaurant family," Farina wrote in a text message. "But after six very successful years, [business partner] Howard [Taylor] and I decided right now the best decision is for Howard to pursue his many other business interests, horse racing and his law firm and I will be expanding my Union Taco brand. Howard and I remain friends through this amicable dissolution of Verdad."

A note Wednesday from Farina's publicist said he had left, effective immediately, to pursue expanding his Union Taco brand. Farina wants to open two more locations - after Manayunk - in the next six months.

Farina, who previously had been chef/owner at a nearby bistro called Blush, set up Verdad in 2009 for owner Howard Taylor.

Verdad replaced Carmine's Creole Café, whose owner, John Mims, had disagreements with Taylor. (The spot, next to Bryn Mawr Film Institute at 818 W. Lancaster Ave., had previously been Citron and Marbles.)

A phone message left at Taylor's office was not returned, and neither was a text sent to his cell phone.
