Workers are in the feverish two-week countdown to the debut of Independence Beer Garden, a massive outdoor establishment on Sixth Street south of Market, across from the Liberty Bell and Independence Mall.

Workers are in the countdown to the debut of Independence Beer Garden, a massive outdoor establishment on Sixth Street south of Market, across from the Liberty Bell and Independence Mall.

The beer garden will nearly ring the landmark One South Independence Mall West building, once home to Rohm & Haas building and now Dow Chemical.

Restaurateur MIchael Schulson, who owns Sampan and Atlantic City's Izakaya, had been saying "July 9" for the opening, but it's been changed again to July 15.

Groundswell Design Group, whose related projects include Morgan's Pier and Winterfest on Penn's Landing, is installing trees, pergolas and two bars - each with 20-tap draft systems. There also will be private climate-controlled rooms set up in enormous steel shipping containers.

Schulson also promises outdoor sports and games, such as shuffleboard and table tennis.

The menu has not been finalized.

Check the image gallery for photos of the progress. You'll notice Schulson and Groundswell's David Fierabend getting progrssively browner, as ewll.
