TV meteorologists fret over snow all winter. Today, on what may be the warmest February day in some time, see how they call what may be a record high.

The forecasts for today on the morning shows:

  • 6ABC: 64

  • CBS3: 65

  • NBC10: 67

  • Fox29: 72

The National Weather Service says 66 and Accu-Weather says 64

Record for the day is 66, set in 1887.

Fox29's David Aldrich, who prepares the forecasts three days a week for Sue Serio, called the 70s a week ago.

The day's actual high was 69, so the closest to the pin was NBC10.

Of course they're calling for snow on Saturday.

Fox29 has a long history of inacurrate forecasts... Rob Guarino (who was the worst) once called for 14" of snow (everyone else called for 4"-6") and we got 2".

Weathermen and women are the biggest frauds. They get so far out there with their forecasts to try and top one another. I believe some of them throw darts at a board to predict the next weeks forecast. I am going to toss my hat in the ring and predict that next year on February 11, 2010 a giant snowstorm will sweep through the area to the tune of 20".

I still get a kick out of WPVI's website and up pop 6 faces that make up their on-camera weather department. Six! Six salaries for what amounts to reporting what computers tell you the weather is going to do? Are you kidding me? NBC10 is almost as bad. Kammerer leaves and NBC, which is leaking money as a network, actually replaced him. Did weather change over the years? In Channel 6's best days, Jim O'Brien did weather during the week, Dave Roberts on weekends. If one of them was on vacation, the other guy would fill in for the other...or Rob Jennings would just read the weather while they showed the 5 day board and that was the end of it. Today, they insist on telling us that this "rain storm" is coming from Missouri. I don't care if it's coming from Missouri or North Carolina. Am I the only one who feels this way? Hasn't weather been around since the beginning of time?

Midatlanticdave you are not a patriot. Ever notice who sponsors the weather? Supermarkets! Milk bread eggs! get out and buy em we might get 3 inches of snow this weekend! Its all hype. The only time weather matters is if a blizzard of 20 inches or more is coming or a hurricane is coming up the delaware... and how often does that happen?
