Ting Wong closes, to reopen under original owner

Renovation is in progress on 10th Street.

Ting Wong - for years one of Chinatown's best humble Hong Kong-style duck-house bargains - has closed, but workers say that it will reopen soon under a new name.

The original owner will assume management of the spot, at 138 N. 10th St.

Workers - citing language differences and not a desire to duck the question - declined to identify the owner, who opened in 1999. The new name will be Ming Wong.

Ting Wong closed for six weeks last fall during a management change that coincided with a sorely needed cleanup and renovation.

Under the original owner four years ago, The Inquirer's Craig LaBan awarded it two bells.

Next door, incidentally, a seafood restaurant with a bar is aiming at a late-November opening. Its name has not been determined, according to its owner.
