The ad that KYW refused to air

KYW has turned down an ad from the Service Employees International Union that accuses Mayor Nutter of "pulling the rug out from under" security guards from city homeless shelters.

KYW Newsradio has turned down a 30-second ad from Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union that accuses Mayor Nutter of "pulling the rug out from under" the security guards at city homeless shelters by calling for a 50-percent pay cut, to $9 an hour.

The radio spot, which the union said would have cost $1,500, appeared in print and on the Web in the Metro and on Philly.com.

"To deny any company, organization or individual the right to express their view, particularly in a paid ad that is free of any profanity or character attack, is unbecoming of radio station that claims to be the city's top news station," says Wayne MacManiman, 32BJ's local director.

"We sought to reconcile some copy issues with the union but they did not return our call," says CBS Radio's Marc Rayfield.

The union provided a copy of the ad to The Inquirer. Hear it here.
