That story about Scoop DeVille's being forced out of its longtime home at 19th and Chestnut Streets by rising rent has a happy ending.

Owner Matthew Shore is working with longtime customer Spencer Philips on opening a new Center City location, at 1315 Walnut. (It's next to the new Potito's Bakery, keeping all your carbs under one roof.)

Shore's last day at 1734 Chestnut St. will be April 27. Philips says the former Tutti Frutti shop will open in mid-May.

Shore and Philips are trying to keep the same everything: The ice cream will still be homegrown Bassetts. The mix-ins will the same. All the employees from 1734 Chestnut will migrate east, too.

Philips, 27, frequented the former Penn campus Scoop DeVille shops when he was an undergrad. Work took him to the D.C. suburbs, but he was itching to get back to Philly. He and girlfriend Julia Steele moved to the Rittenhouse Square area and he struck up a conversation with Shore about a partnership. "Then he told me that this location would be moving," Philips said.

Having realized that his rent renewal would not work, Shore and wife Sarah secured 163 E. Lancaster Ave. in downtown Wayne, where Cream & Sugar was. They decided to expand the business to breakfast/lunch, so it will be called Sophie's Cafe when it opens in June. Sophie's also will serve Scoop DeVille-branded ice cream
