The line on Tiffin Bistro, opening Sunday

Quick: Name an Indian restaurant in South Philadelphia east of Broad.

Right. Not too many.

Munish Narula is poised for the opening Sunday, June 2 of Tiffin Bistro, an Indian restaurant in the former Kris (aka Kristian's) at 11th and Federal Streets.

Tiffin Bistro is positioned between the casual side of his mini-chain, Tiffin, and the posher atmosphere of his South Philadelphia destination, Tashan.

Narula and company changed little in the room that includes a small bar and a white-tablecloth dining room beautifully appointed in limestone.

Chef Kirti Pant, whose background includes Junoon in New York, Amber India in San Francisco, and Cinnamon Club in London, worked with Tashan chef Sylva Senat on the menu, which you can see here.

Dishes are from all over India. Bar: Five classic and five signature cocktails, 20 or so wines by the glass and the bottle, plus a small craft beer selection.

Tiffin Bistro will stretch Tiffin's delivery area south of Washington Avenue; Narula says the zone is not final.

At the outset, Tiffin Bistro will serve dinner only from 5 p.m. There will be no takeout or delivery initially.

One side-effect in Narula World: Tiffin Etc. - the Indian street-food side of the flagship Tiffin shop on Girard Avenue - is being phased out.
