Chips, devils on horseback, bangers and mash, chicken tikka masala, rhubarb ginger fool for dessert - yes, it sounds British, all right.
The Victoria Freehouse - from Edward Strojan, who owns the English Gardener gift shop in Haddonfield and its casual British Chip Shop sibling across Kings Highway - makes its soft opening Wednesday, March 6 at 10 S. Front St. in Old City, the former Swanky Bubbles. (Everything olde is new again, when you think about it: In colonial times when the Delaware River and not I-95 actually ran by Front Street, the restaurant scene was all British pubs - certainly not a cocktail bar catering to bachelorette parties.)
Grand opening will be noon Friday, March 8.
Strojan says he wants to cater to expats, which he says is an untapped market. His dozen-on-tap list will include a mix of Yanks and Brits, including Fuller's, Wells, Young's, Yards, and Brooklyn Brewery.
