Tashan in training

The modern Indian restaurant at 777 S. Broad St. is in its final weeks of prep.

If all goes to plan, the first big restaurant opening of the season will be Tashan, the spiffy modern Indian small-plater from Tiffin's Munish Narula, at 777 S. Broad St.

The paper came off the windows at Broad and Catharine Streets last week, and architect/designer Winka Dubbeldam's posh stylings are coming together.

Staff is being trained.

Though the lounge area is most sumptuous, the geek in me is most enthralled with the compact open kitchen, which has three tandoors and assorted grills. Chefs Sylva Senat and Sanjay Shende have been testing recipes at Tiffin on Girard Avenue, and expect to go live this week.

Here are a few photos. Tashan is expected to open shortly after Sept. 8.
