Taqueria coming to Girard Avenue

Chef Nick Farina of Bryn Mawr's Verdad Restaurant & Tequila Bar (who also has a taco truck) is coming into the 215 to open Union Taco, a 20-seater, at 712 W. Girard Ave. in early October.

Gotta love these Girard Avenue taquerias.

These? Not sooner had Shifty's Taco opened at 2730 W. Girard Ave. in Brewerytown when a second tortilla slinger signed up, on the other side of town.

Chef Nick Farina of Bryn Mawr's Verdad Restaurant & Tequila Bar (who also has a taco truck) is coming down to the 215 to open Union Taco, a 20-seater, at 712 W. Girard Ave. in early October.

Union Taco will be open for lunch and dinner daily and will stay open late nights on weekends. The menu will include a half dozen 6-inch soft tacos stuffed into housemade tortillas, tortas, Mexican flatbread pizzas, and churros. Pricing will be $6 for two tacos, $7 for tortas, $8 to $12 for flatbread pizzas and $3 per bag of churros, which will be served with spicy Mexican chocolate dipping sauce.

Tacos can be made into tortas, for those who want their street food a sandwich. Opening options include Pork Carnitas with Pomegranate, Spinach and Barbeque Sauce; Sliced Kobe Beef with Figs and Housemade Tres Queso; Flash Fried Mahi-Mahi with Soy Ginger, Carrot Slaw and Cabbage; Grilled Seasonal Vegetables with Huitlacoche; Pork Cheeks with Pickled Tomatillo Salsa and Pork Jus; and Pulled Chicken with Chile Relish.

Mexican flatbreads include Confit Chicken with Goat Cheese and Sundried Tomatoes; Duck with Fig and Manchego; and Rabbit with Chanterelles and Queso Fresco.

Union Taco will offer Mexican sodas and ingredients for specialty margaritas for those who BYOT.
