Sweet Box opens its cupcake shop

Cupcake queen Gretchen Fantini - who started selling cupcakes a few years ago at the Piazza at Schmidt's for extra money and two years ago went the mobile route with Sweet Box Cupcake Truck - now has a storefront, too.

Saturday, May 11 will mark the opening of Sweet Box Shop at 339 S. 13th St. (between Pine and Panama) in Washington Square West.

At the grand opening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Fantini and staff will hand out minis of signature Sweet Box cupcakes and mimosas.

Cupcakes - in such flavors as Red Velvet, Snickerdoodle, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip, Bacon Maple Pancake, Chocolate Ganache and Strawberries and Champagne - retail for $3.50 each.
