Steakhouses (almost) giving away food

Del Frisco's has expanded its $5 bar deal to three nights a week and is selling $35 three-course dinners on Sundays.

You can go dizzy trying to keep up with the specials offered at the steakhouses.

Eight steakhouses are jointly promoting "Steak Month" and will offer $50, three-course prix-fixe menus Sundays through Thursdays, from March 1 through 31.

  1. Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse, 111 S. 17th St.

  2. Delmonico's Steakhouse at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue, 4200 City Ave.

  3. Morton's the Steakhouse – Philadelphia, 1411 Walnut St.

  4. Palm, 200 S. Broad St..

  5. The Prime Rib, 1701 Locust St.

  6. Saloon Restaurant, 750 S. 7th St.

  7. Smith & Wollensky, 210 W. Rittenhouse Sq.

  8. Union Trust, 717 Chestnut St.

Ed Doherty of Union Trust acknowledges that the steakhouses are competitors, but "it's friendly competition."

Almost friendly.

Del Frisco's and Capital Grille declined the group's invitation.

Del Frisco's, at 15th and Chestnut Streets, is doing its own thing. It just extended its Thursday night bar special to Wednesdays and Sundays, from 5 to 11 p.m. The special includes $5 dishes, including cheesesteak dumplings, wild-mushroom gnocchi, and scallop sliders. It's the work of its new general manager, Rich Furino, last at the Sullivan's in King of Prussia. He's also offering $35 three-course dinners on Sundays: soup or salad, entree (8-ounce filet, 14-ounce prime rib, pork porterhouse, salmon, or chicken Provencal, plus dessert -- or $40 for a 16-ounce prime rib, or $50 for a 20-ouncer). Click here for the Sunday "Prime Time" offering.

There's the new Chops at Seventh and Walnut, offering 10-ounce kobe burgers for $6 at lunch starting next week  (2/22).

Union Trust right now is offering an 8-ounce filet mignon a la carte for $14 at lunch and dinner through Feb. 28, as well as $7.17 lunch entrees, including a kobe burger.

Ruth's Chris (260 S. Broad St., plus King of Prussia) has a $39.95 prix-fixe.
