Starr's beer garden has a name

Frankford Hall's exterior is nondescript now.

Now that Talula's Garden is blooming on Washington Square, Stephen Starr is targeting May 17* for the opening of his beer garden on Frankford Avenue just off Girard Avenue in Fishtown. The property, at 1210 Frankford Ave., is cloaked in anonymity.

I can tell you that he's calling it Frankford Hall, and he grabbed the .com domain earlier this week.

The project will be an indoor-outdoor affair, with large bars inside and picnic-table seating outside in the courtyard, which features four imported trees.

The building's brick walls have been largely maintained. Where workers punched out entrance ways is how the bricks will look, though they will be coated.

* Opening date changed yet again (5/5/11)

Philly.com you got the wrong picture on this article - you're currently showing a bombed out factory in Baghdad by mistake

As a fishtonian I'm excited but I'm no fan of Stephen Starr and the Disneyfication of Restaurant Concepts and Beer Gardens. Of course I'll probably give it a go but I'm way more excited to hear about the Barcade! Bar + Arcade = Barcade. I wonder if the yuppies will even travel to Fishtown for the latest Starr venue?

mundiff: "Disneyfication..." that's what they said about Parc off Rittenhouse Square (my neighborhood) and Parc has turned out to be the best thing that's happened to Rittenhouse Square.
Same thing re Dandelion on 18th Street. All Starr's restaurants work because beneath the "Disneyfication" is rock-solid, bare-bones, no nonsense first class service and food. That being the case who cares about the packaging?

Good lord He Visto..."first class service and food"? Are you sure you want to embarrass yourself like that? More like 100% disposable.

I have to say starr has nailed his last couple of places. parc, dandelion, etc. they aren't disney versions, they are accurate recreations, and the food is top notch..even if they are overpriced. still, beer garden. trees, being outside, beer, sausages. nuff said

I will no doubt sit at the bar here at least once. Drop $9 on a beer. Then never go back. Viva neighborhood bars!
