South Philly bar to close because 'traffic was kind of meh'

Bar at La Casa de tu Madre, 800 Fitzwater St.

La Casa de tu Madre, the Day of the Dead-theme bar at Eighth and Fitzwater Streets in Bella Vista, will close after business Sunday, Oct. 30.

The reason it won't be open for Halloween, said co-owner Jason Evenchik, is because he and his staff have kids and "we have trick-or-treating to do."

La Casa had but a one-year run, replacing Growlers. "The lease is almost up and I'm not renewing," Evenchik said. "I liked the spot but the traffic was kind of meh."

Danya Henninger at Billy Penn, who reported the impending closing on Tuesday, noted the recent closing of Coeur around the corner after just a year in business.

Evenchik, meanwhile, has plenty on his plate. He and partners own the two Garage bars, Heritage, Vintage, Bar, Time, and Tiki.
