Sona Pub & Kitchen — not an Irish pub, mind you — opens in Manayunk

Besides a huge front bar with 36 craft beers on tap, there's a cocktail bar in the rear, as well as seating for 150 people upstairs

Manayunk's restaurant scene has had a touch of an upswing lately, with March's debut of Somo at the former Rubb BBQ, the forthcoming opening of a pub where Derek's was, and now April 27's rollout of Sona Pub & Kitchen (where Kildare's was).

Damien Given, who co-owns Sona (4417 Main St., 484-273-0481), worked for Kildare's owner, Dave Magrogan. But although Given grew up west of Belfast and the name is Irish for "happy," he is not positioning the heavily woodsy Sona as an "Irish pub."

Besides a huge front bar with 36 craft beers on tap, there's a cocktail bar in the rear, as well as seating for 150 people upstairs.

Given and partner Chris Flanagan, who is in the construction business, gutted Kildare's, opening it up considerably.

Hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday to Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Kitchen closes at 10 p.m.
