Something healthful coming to 20th and Market

UrbanFarm, a cafe with bar, is being readied for a winter opening at the corner of 20th and Ludlow Streets.

Center City has been getting shots of healthful dining here and there.

Next up is Farmer's Keep, which is being readied for a mid-April opening at the corner of 20th and Ludlow Streets (10-12 S. 20th St., across from the Stock Exchange and behind 2000 Market St.).

(It's been - for want of a better description - a string of forgettable bars. Remember the one that had tried to set beer prices according to the Dow?)

Farmer's Keep's owners - who are laying low for now - are planning what they call a "market-style" dining experience, where consumers walk through a line, choose their food, and pay by weight.

They'll minimize the carbon footprint as they emphasize local, natural, and organic ingredients as much as possible. In addition to offering four or five proteins daily, owners will have upwards of 25 composed salads and sides.

Street-level dining room will include reclaimed-wood tables and chairs, fresh vegetation in planters, and old farm equipment. Upstairs, there will be a rooftop garden and deck, as well as a bar serving local, gluten-free wines and beers plus cocktails.

The owners also plan to offer yoga, pilates, and other holistic exercise activities, cooking classes and educational sessions.
