Sansom Kabob House resurfaces on South Street

Hamad and Sona Hahsy, the Afghan-born owners, decorated the former tattoo parlor tastefully with a large mural, curios, chandeliers, and glass-topped white tablecloths.

The sign above the restaurant's facade reads, "Sansom," yet the green Streets Department proclaims, "South."

To clarify: Sansom Kabob House, which last fall left its home of 13 years at 1526 Sansom St., has at last resurfaced at the corner of 13th and South Streets, keeping its name, its phone number (215-751-9110), and its recipes. The key difference is that it's so much more ... visible. On Sansom Street, it was tucked down a flight of stairs - the future home of Rooster Soup Co.

Hamad and Sona Hahsy, the Afghan-born owners, decorated the former tattoo parlor tastefully with a large mural, curios, chandeliers, and glass-topped white tablecloths. There's a semiprivate dining area on a platform set off to one side of the main dining room.

Most lunch entrees are under $11; dinner entrees are in the low to mid-teens. Kabobs, naturally, are a specialty, as is the tandoor-baked Afghan bread.

Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
