Saige Cafe plans 6 locations in town

The first to open will have a liquor license and is being targeted for a June or early summer opening in the new apartment building at 2116 Chestnut St.

Saige Cafe, an upstart with locations in Toms River, N.J., and at Temple University, has ambitious plans for Center City this year.

Owner Ehsan Wahdat says the first Saige location with a liquor license is being targeted for a June or early summer opening in the new apartment building at 2116 Chestnut St. (That restaurant space had been earmarked for Mercadito, a Mexican nightspot whose deal later went south.)

Wahdat describes the Chestnut Street location as a wine bar with a menu including small plate/tapas, sandwiches, and salads made from organic/local produce.

Other locations are in the negotiation phase: another in Rittenhouse, two in Old City, one near Jefferson Hospital, and one in what Wahdat calls "the Fishtown area."
