Rouge and Dog & Bull win Macnow's Great Hamburger Hunt

WIP's Glen Macnow has been scouring the region's burger shops for the last month and a half.

He and his crew sampled burgers from 40 places - fancy, middle-of-the-road, not so fancy.

At Saturday's final at Valley Forge Casino, he put his Great Hamburger Hunt finalists up for two votes - among a panel of celeb judges and among many hundreds of attendees, who sampled the wares for free.

When the smoke (literally) cleared, the winners were:

Rouge, the chichi bistro on Rittenhouse Square, whose beef patty ($16, including frites) is topped with carmelized onions and gruyere cheese on a brioche challah bun, was the judges' choice.

Dog & Bull, a pub/music venue in Croydon, whose burger ($10, including hand-cut fries) comes with bacon, crispy fried onions and cheddar-ale sauce, was the people's choice winner. "It's humbling and pretty darn cool," manager Andy Wells told me.

Restaurateur Rob Wasserman has assembled a field of about 50 burger makers to cook for the public.

In the Small World Dept., Wasserman just so happens to own Rouge, so the Rouge burger will be given away at Burger Brawl but not voted on.

At Macnow's event, Wasserman approached Wells of Dog & Bull.
