Restaurant notes, 86-style

  • A sign on the door of Siam Lotus (931 Spring Garden St.) explains that it's closed because of a two-week vacation to Thailand. The phone, however, is disconnected and state records show the liquor license is inactive.
  • Javier in Haddonfield (208 Kings Highway East) is gone. A statement from Haddonfield's business community said, "Significant internal setbacks during the restaurant’s opening months coupled with the prolonged economic downturn led to the demise of the establishment."
  • Frederick's, the over-the-top Italian at 757 S. Front St. in Queen Village, has closed. Owner Fred Vidi said he is sprucing up the place in anticipation of a sale. No deal is signed, he said.

well well well, as I would come to expect, there are casualties due to the market collapse. This is not going to be the last of the 86 report per Michael Klein. The list is going to get longer soon. And yeah I probably would expect a Starr shop and maybe a big name steakhouse to fumble as well. It is just too telling at this juncture.
