Restaurant notes: Free pig sandwiches


National Pig Day is March 1. The holiday was founded in 1972 by two sisters who sought to give the pig its props.

Not chops.

And here comes Chef Jordan “Red” Sauter of Philadelphia Bar & Restaurant (120 Market St.) in Old City with a different idea.

He will give out hand-carved roast suckling-pig “slammers” from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday. (A “slammer” is about twice the size of a slider.)

Starting at 1 p.m., the sandwiches will sell for $3 and he will sell 10-ounce goblets of Avery Brewing Co.’s Hog Heaven Barleywine for $3. Sauter’s Avery Hog Heaven-braised pork shank with cracklins over a bacon lentil “salad” will be offered for $10.
