Two Eagles are putting the sports in sports bar.

Todd Herremans and Brent Celek are investors in 879, now operating at 110 Chestnut St. in Old City after it replaced the short-lived Crocodile Philly last week.

The name is a contraction of the players' uniform numbers, 87 (Celek) and 79 (Herremans).

The flat screens are operating now, while the bulk of the changeover (a new kitchen and a lounge upstairs) should be completed in about a month, said Bill Morrin, the project's lawyer.

Food will be handled by Michael Lane, who owns the Steak 'Em Up shops in South Philly and Collingdale.

Absentee owners??? They'll soon be broke. Are the hiring bartenders yet? I'll pay $200 a week for the job.

Not only did Steak um up steal the idea for their commercial, it is one of the most stupid, annoying commercials on TV. I can only hope their food is better, or Todd and Brent will be needing a new contract to cover their losses at the bar.

the worst parts about people with $$$ "owning" a restaurant/bar is:
    a) they have no clue what they're doing.
    b) they have no desire to learn
    c) they'll bring all their hangers on in to the joint and give them all they can eat & drink, KILLING the profitability.

A great name would've been 876, derived from the amount of pts 87 would have scored if he didn't run out of the end zone before making the catch VS Packers......

They are so smart the way they came up with that name! This bar seems like a future failure.

Just because they are investors doesn't mean they will be operating the restaurant in any meaningful way. Restaurants and bars often have silent partners who just put up cash; in the case of these guys, they are hoping their names add some draw so it is publicized.
