Restaurant notes: Le Bec-Fin hires a French GM; LaTerrasse is dark

Sylvain Briens had spent a few years at Taquet in Wayne.

Georges Perrier has gone back and forth over the years with the background of his top managers -- choosing Yanks or Francs. He's gone back to France for his new general manager, Sylvain Briens. He replaces David Smith, now the director of catering and events concentrating on off-site catering and private parties. Briens, raised in Brittany, moved to the United States in fall 2001 to join the former Taquet in the Wayne Hotel as a captain. He moved up to general manager by 2004. His next job was with a New Jersey hospitality company in Bordentown.

La Terrasse, the landmark on the Penn campus, is down -- and apparently has been since Christmas. A statement yesterday from the university, which owns the property, reads: ""La Terasse is still currently under lease with Penn. We are in communications with the owners regarding the recent temporary closure and next steps. At this time, the owners have informed us that they are in the process of repositioning the restaurant for a future opening."
