Restaurant notes: Krispy Kreme and Mugshots set dates

The return of the doughnut giant; a new spot for the Fairmount coffee shop.

Wednesday (Nov. 3) is the expected opening of the third location of Mugshots Coffeehouse, in the Brewerytown section in a former hat shop at 2831 W. Girard Ave. During demo, owners Angela Vendetti and Jill Fink found a late-1880s vaulted plaster ceiling, which they've painted bold. There's also a  landscaped rear garden for outdoor seating.

Krispy Kreme fanatics can start lining up now for the grand opening of the region's first new shop, at 7855 Oxford Ave. in the city's Fox Chase section. It's down the street from the new Hop Angel Brauhaus and more or less behind the Fox Chase SEPTA station. And, I will add, just down the street from Jeanes Hospital, which will be glad to pop in a stent or two.

Grand opening is 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9. First person in line at the door and at the drive-through will get a free dozen doughnuts every week for a year. The next 11 customers in line at the door and drive-through will get a free dozen every month for a year. The first 100 customers get a shirt.

The franchisees, Brian Zaslow and Keith Morgan, are planning two dozen stores in the region over the next seven years. They're looking at Bucks County, South Jersey, and Center City. (Psst. 16th and Chestnut Streets.) Besides 15 varieties of doughnuts, Krispy Kreme will serve six kinds of bagels, six kinds of muffins, fresh fruit, yogurt, hot oatmeal, and granola.

Krispy Kreme left the area several years ago when the then-franchisee filed for bankruptcy protection.
