Restaurant notes: Raw to open in the Piazza at Schmidt's
The Speck space is getting an occupant.
Tony Rim, who owns Raw Sushi at 1225 Sansom St. (and The Corner at 13th and Chancellor), tells me that he is 95 percent on board with a plan to take over the never-occupied Speck space at the Piazza at Schmidt's.
It will be another Raw.
You may recall that in March, with construction all but finished, Speck landlord Bart Blatstein changed the locks, shutting out chef Shola Olunloyo.
Rim says the new Raw will have about 75 percent of his Sansom Street menu, plus the budget-friendly robatayaki and yakitori. He says this location will target a younger crowd.
Assuming Rim decides to do the project, he said he expects to open softly as soon as June 4-5 but will close periodically through the month to refine the concept.
He says he will open for good at the end of June.
