Restaurant notes: Bindi goes for liquor; a new Corner?

Intrigue in Center City.

Thirteenth Street entrepreneurs Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran have gotten a taste of the bar life with Barbuzzo, their Mediterranean kitchen just off Sansom. Today, a liquor application was posted in the window of Bindi, their Indian-fusion concept across the street. Community and state approval takes time, so Bindi probably will be all BYOB all summer. Lolita, their Mexican cantina, will remain a BYOB.

See that liquor application at 1710 Sansom St.? Tony Rim's name is on it, and the corporate name ("The Corner Foodery") suggests it will be another version of The Corner (his spot at 13th and Drury). He's not talking, as he's focused on a new location of Raw in Northern Liberties.

Tom Pizzica, "Big Chef" on the Food Network, will join the seventh annual Chefs' Dinner for PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society) on Monday, June 27 at the Union League. He will be flying in from San Diego, joining Chris Lee (former of Striped Bass now Huntingdon Social in NYC and Eden in Miami) and Matt Hill (Charlie Palmer, D.C.) as out-of-towners due in. It's $300 a head, and organizer Dana Spain says 470 tickets are sold. Details are here.
