Pure Sweets setting up in Rittenhouse

Andrea Kyan is getting a storefront for Pure Sweets, the organic, gluten-free, vegan, kosher bakery and cold-pressed juice company she runs out of a kitchen in East Falls.

Kyan just signed a lease at 1706 Locust St., down the block from Rittenhouse Square and across the street from the Warwick. Frank DeFazio, who represented the building owner, put out the word this morning.

Kyan, 35, was working in clinical research and was prepping to go to medical school when she decided instead to help people through food, she said. She started Pure Sweets as a hobby in 2008 and took it full time in 2010.

Soon after she enlisted Brittany Goldberg of Michael Salove Co. to find her a brick-and-mortar location - not only for production but for greater exposure. Goldberg found her the former Adresse boutique.

The cafe also will have a garden.

Kyan said it would not open till spring, as the utilities must be upgraded. She said her product line would be expanded to include plant-based Burmese/Chinese/Thai food.

Though the shop's hours will be primarily breakfast through lunch, she would like to hold healthy-food workshops at night for kids.
