Pub coming to the Academy House
The front man is said to be John Bernardo, who owns McFadden's.
The restaurant/bar space on the mezzanine of the Academy House (1420 Locust St.) is getting a pub, though details remain hush-hush pending an opening in the next couple of weeks.
Its name will be Tap & Kitchen, continuing the long list of banal & hackneyed bar names with ampersands.
John Bernardo, who owns the McFadden's sports bars, went before the building's condo board last week to emphasize that it would be a pub and not another McFadden's.
Bernardo, who has not returned a phone message and an email, also owns Tavern on Broad, around the corner and under the Bellevue.
The spot, tucked beneath a concrete overhang (and now shrouded in scaffolding), should have been outfitted with a revolving door.
