Porto to replace Carman's in South Philly

Christine Liskowicz wants to bring a Portuguese influence to 11th and Wharton.

Porto to replace Carman's in South Philly

Lots of hammering and sawing going on at 11th and Wharton Streets, the former home of Carman's Country Kitchen.

New occupant of the corner, due this summer, will be Porto, a cafe/bistro from South Philly's Christine Liskowicz. (Say it Port-oo.)

She tells me she's a New Jersey native who did a year at the Culinary Institute of America. More importantly, she learned Portuguese cooking - with a capital T for tripe - at her mom's knee. She also cooked at Sabrina's.

She envisions her style as "fun, healthy and great," with big breakfasts and dinners.

Stay tuned.
