Bon Appetit's best new restaurant? Not in Philly

Philly newcomers Townsend and Dizengoff made Bon Appetit magazine's list of 50 nominees.

Philly newcomers Townsend and Dizengoff made Bon Appetit magazine's list of 50 nominees for the best new restaurant in America a few weeks ago.

Alas, though the high-end French restaurant on East Passyunk and the Rittenhouse hummus shop represent opposite ends of the dining spectrum, the magazine has gone elsewhere for its top 10 finalists.

BA's winner - restaurant of the year - was AL's Place in San Francisco, whose eclectic menu includes such dishes as pickled french fries with smoked applesauce, and a savory cod curry made with stone fruit, blueberries, green beans and charred lime. (See rundown here.)

The rest of the best:

2. Gjusta of Venice, Calif.

3. Petit Trois of Los Angeles

4. Semilla of Brooklyn

5. Parachute of Chicago

6. Dai Due of Austin

7. Kindred of Davidson, N.C.

8. Rintaro of San Francisco

9. Manolin of Seattle

10. Milktooth of Indianapolis

(Indianapolis?)

Not that Bon Appetit has it in for Philly. It named High Street on Market No. 2 on its list in 2014.
