Penn detective wins 50 grand on 'Millionaire'
He decided not to guess about animal flatuence.
Ted Farrell, a police detective supervisor at the University of Pennsylvania (and a retired 24-year veteran of the Philly PD), finished two days on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with $50,000 in winnings.
Farrell, 58, started in the hot seat today by looking at the $50,000 question with no lifelines left.
Category, "Heads of State."
Question: "What world leader formally resigned on Christmas Day 1991? A: Margaret Thatcher, B: Lech Walesa, C: Helmut Kohl, D: Mikhail Gorbachev." Farrell correctly answered "D."
Now for the $100,000 question.
Category, "On Animals."
Question: "Aristotle wrote that what animal 'which is reputed to enjoy immunity from all other illnesses, is occasionally subject to flatulency'"? A: Goat, B: Elephant, C: Dog, D: Lion."
Farrell decided to walk away with the 50 grand. (Had he not answered "B. elephant," he would have fallen back to $25,000.)
