Pay what you wish at opening of Sweetgreen

The salad specialist opens Wednesday, March 26 at 924 Walnut St.

Syndicated salad specialist Sweetgreen adds its third regional location, near 10th and Walnut Streets, on Wednesday, March 26 and puts forth an intriguing idea:

You pay what you want.

Before you decide that you'll drop a buck in the basket so you can "get one over on the corporate man," consider this:

Sweetgreen is giving all of Wednesday's proceeds to Fair Food Philly, which squares with Sweetgreen's good for you/good for the environment ethos.

The new spot is at 924 Walnut St. and replaces Bonte. Note that it is takeout only, and the only seating will be outside when or if it ever decides to warm up.

Wednesday's grand opening hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. After that, it's open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Many of the ingredients are local and/or organic. Menu is simple: You customize by starting with a bowl of greens or warm grains (quinoa and farro), and adding four ingredients, protein and cheese, and dressing.

Signature salads are priced from $7.85 for a vegetarian salad with tofu to $11.50 for a Cobb.

Note that this location does not sell wraps.

D.C.-based Sweetgreen has locations in University City and Ardmore.
