Opening in sight for Le Meridien

"A bazillion things" delayed the Arch Street hotel.

Circle dinnertime May 6 for the first public meals at Amuse, the restaurant/bar/lounge in the long-delayed Le Meridien hotel at 1421 Arch St., which had been due to open Oct. 15.

Five months later, general manager Evan Evans explains that "a bazillion things" delayed the 200-room hotel's opening, including the economy and Starwood's desire to skip the traditionally slow winter season.

May 6 is no accident; it's just before Penn graduation, when every decent room in town is booked.

Amuse is a 60-seater plus private wine room, 13-seat bar in the lobby, and 20 in the lounge.

Amuse's chef, Dan Black, last at Equinox Hotel in Manchester, Vt., will send out a complimentary amuse bouche with each drink.

Here are draft lunch and dinner menus. Note that it's priced right: Top entree is $21.
