OpenTable: Philly has 5 top 'foodie' restaurants
Four of the winners are BYOBs: Bibou, Marigold Kitchen, Noord, Vedge and Will BYOB.
OpenTable, the reservation site, is out with its 100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in America list, and Philadelphia has five of them.
It should be noted that four are BYOBs, a surprising fact given the current emphasis on cocktail culture.
Bibou: Pierre and Charlotte Calmels' recently renovated South Philadelphia French BYOB.
Noord: Joncarl Lachman and Bob Moysan's Euro corner on Passyunk Square.
Vedge: Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby's much-honored vegan destination in Washington Square West.
Will BYOB: Chris Kearse's French-inspired boutique on East Passyunk Avenue.
The company said its data-crunchers worked with more than 5 million reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners. All restaurants with a minimum overall score and number of qualifying reviews were considered. Qualifying restaurants were then sorted according to a score calculated from each restaurant's average rating in the "fit for foodies" category.
Newness had a lot of sway nationally, as a quarter of the restaurants opened in 2015 alone. None of the Philly restaurants is a yearling.
OpenTable also says consumers now value innovative cooking techniques, interesting cuisines or an emphasis on sustainability, over traditional white-tablecloth destinations.
