Not since the Great Steakhouse Rush of 2008-2009 has Center City seen the luxe grandeur of Ocean Prime, which opens Sept. 9 at 124 S. 15th St. (15th and Sansom Streets).
Restaurateur Cameron Mitchell calls it a supper club - which is the best way to describe this $5 million build-out of the former Roy's. Mitchell owns about 20 restaurants nationwide; this is OP #10.
Ocean Prime seats 260 in the main dining room and three private dining rooms; beneath an enormous onyx-ringed fixture, the mezzanine offers a bird's eye view of the dining room and bar.
The lounge itself - whose high-top tables have placards indicating that tables are reserved for celebs including James Dean and Bruce Springsteen - seats 60. General manager Marc Oppen previously ran Route 6 in North Philly and the Bonefish Grill in Willow Grove. Chef Sonny Pache is from OP's Dallas location.
Menu is here. Entrees start at $27 for chicken and top at $47 for twin lobster tails. The tab without alcohol is about $70 a person.
Ocean Prime is participating in Center City District Restaurant Week (Sept. 15-20 and Sept. 22-27), which will reduce the freight considerably (to $35 a head). Here is the RW menu.
