Mugshots to brew in Brewerytown

Mugshots CoffeeHouse, which Jill Fink and Angela Vendetti founded across from Eastern State Penitentiary in 2004 (and opened in Manayunk in 2006), is planning to expand into Brewerytown with a shop at 2831 W. Girard Ave., a slice of town that seems to be ripe for growth.

The new spot, which needs a zoning variance and is probably months from opening, will be a double boon for Vendetti. She will have office space there, too, so she can move the business' office out of her house.

it might be tough at first, but they should do well if they can stick it out for a few years. Brewerytown would have made a better hipster playground than Fishtown 15 years ago if those art school kids weren't so afraid of black people. I wonder what that strip will become once more independent artists and shop owners with good ideas like these realize they can create a little "Main Street USA In The City" -type community there on West Girard. It should be fun to watch.

Thanks for posting this. My company, MM Partners, is the landlord. If anyone is interested, we've just posted some photos of the space that will become Mugshots Brewerytown on our blog. It's a very unique space with a lot of history, including the original 1880's barrel vaulted plaster ceiling. Please check it out at mmpartnersllc.com, and then following the link for the blog.

Yes! I live in the neighborhood, and know a lot of people who are really excited about this. We desperately need a decent coffee shop on this side of town.

Update! Zoning approval has been received, and construction will begin shortly. I anticipate a late spring/ early summer opening.
