Mourning Harry Kalas
The broadcaster's widow says his golden retriever was inconsolable.
We'll long remember the outpouring of grief surrounding Harry Kalas' death three months ago. The Phillies' longtime broadcaster touched so many people.
His widow, Eileen, who has put their home near Media on the market, told me that while she's beginning to cope, the loss was too intense for his golden retriever, Scout.
For two weeks before Kalas died on April 13, the dog "wouldn't leave his side," she said. "He usually would sleep in another room, but for some reason he wanted to be right there with him."
After Kalas' death, Scout "wouldn't leave [Kalas'] suitcase alone. I put [the suitcase] in a closet, and he just howled." She said she had to give the dog to a family friend.
