Morgan's Pier, with Nick Elmi at the stove, opens

Nicholas Elmi of Laurel has signed on for the pier's fourth summer.

Morgan's Pier, the seasonal beer garden beside the Ben Franklin Bridge, opens Thursday, April 30 with the chef's services of Nicholas Elmi this summer.

Elmi, winner of Top Chef's season 11 and chef/owner of the shoebox-size East Passyunk Avenue restaurant Laurel, has crafted a menu (here) for the masses.

And I mean masses: Morgan's Pier gets 500 at a time, compared with 22 that can be seated at Laurel.

And if any term on the menu seems unfamiliar ("kewpie" or kombu"?), there's written translation.

Elmi's chef de cuisine, Kyle McCormick, and sous chef, Keith Bellow, will run the day-to-day.

This year, Morgan's Pier will serve weekend brunch and weekday happy hours that will allow patrons to order directly from a grill cook.
