MilkBoy's South Street location gets closer

And by the way: The 11th and Chestnut location is not going anywhere.

MilkBoy's second city location, on the northwest corner of Fourth and South Streets, seems to be racing the warm weather for its arrival.

The bar/coffee bar/restaurant/music venue - across from Jim's Steaks on the longtime former site of Lickety Split - will have what are believed to be South Street's first roll-up garage doors in a bar setting. There will be two, on the South Street side.

Lots of cool bars elsewhere - including Garage, Frankford Hall, and the other MilkBoy at 11th and Chestnut Streets - have them.

And speaking of 11th and Chestnut Streets: Co-owner Bill Hanson says he has been buttonholed repeatedly by folks who believe that this location will close, based on the recent news that Thomas Jefferson University Hospital had bought the building as an investment. The building was in play. MilkBoy, the tenant, was not.

"To be clear, we are going nowhere," Hanson told me. "We have a great relationship with our friends, and now landlords, at Jeff. It's symbiotic, in a social sense really. If anything, all it means is for the next 15 years, I'll just be walking my rent check across the street."
