Mexican Post near the Parkway is closed

Landlord had filed a judgment. In other news, South Street West has lost its cupcake shop.

The Mexican Post location just off the Parkway at 1601 Cherry St. - which seemed to do bang-up business at least at its outdoor patio - closed Wednesday after 6½ years.

The company isn't talking about the reasons. Other locations, including a stand at the Comcast Center and the restaurant in Old City, are still open.

Municipal Court records recount that the landlord filed a judgment last spring seeking $135,000 in rent. The judgment was put on hold during appeal in July.

Speaking of landlord-tenant disputes, court records show a tussle between the operators of Philly Cupcake and its landlord at 1944 South St. (aka 20th and South Streets).

That fight - which included an allegation that nearly $24,000 in rent was owed and a counterclaim that the landlord's contractors had botched needed repairs, delaying the shop's opening - ended in a settlement Oct. 25, according to court records.

The upshot: Philly Cupcake closed the shop after nine months and regrouped at its 1132 Chestnut St. location. As noted by the NakedPhilly blog, signs on the now-empty South Street store indicate forthcoming Philly Cupcake locations at Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania.
