Media: Land of a thousand restaurants

That's close, anyway. Three newcomers in the borough.

Media: Land of a thousand restaurants

Can you name a town in the Philly suburbs with more restaurants per square mile than Media?

Dining destinations such as Doylestown, Cherry Hill, Ardmore and even West Chester don't come close to the Delaware County seat.

Three newcomers have joined the borough's mix in the last two months:

Diego’s Cantina & Tequila Bar (214 W. State St., 484-442-8741, a narrow storefront — formerly Coffee Club — with a bar in the front and dining in the back from Loic Barnieu, who also owns Picasso and La Belle Epoque in town. Diego’s has already had a visit from comedian Wanda Sykes, the town’s celebrity.

Spasso Italian Grill, an offshoot of Claudio Sandolo’s original in Old City, took over the stately spot at 1 W. State St. (610-565-7803), the onetime home of borough hall and later the restaurants Brodeur’s and New Orleans Cafe. Sandolo offers the same middle-of-the-road menu offered downtown.

Desert Rose (305 W. State St., 484-442-8012) is a simple Mediterranean cafe/grocery from Jason and Natali McHugh — he’s a local guy who worked at the old Deux Cheminées before embarking on travels to Europe and the Virgin Islands. After meeting Natali in her native Israel, he became enthralled with street food. Menu includes hummus platters, shwarma, and falafel.

And in Thursday's "Table Talk" column, I'll run down La Porta, the new Italian bar from Peter McAndrews, just outside of town in Edgmont Township.

La Na is a solid Thai restaurant. Above average food and service.

Don't forget the awesome 320 Market and their unreal stromboli and salads.

That's great Media you want to attract folks, but your parking situation stinks, not to mention all the traffic crawling along Baltimore Pike. Too many things crammed into a small area, Trader Joe's, the court house, numerous law firms, restaurants, stores, etc. Often you have to go blocks away to the residential area to park and get a scowl from the homeowner if you park in front of their house. Even at the end of the day when the court house and the law firms are done business for the day doesn't alleviate the parking situation very much.

Jet Drive..You can park in a Media garage for like $2 dollars on weekends, instead of Philly which is $20. And you never have a fear of being attacked by a flashmob.

I think that the Inquirer is just biased towards a town called Media.

And traffic is any better in Philly? Media has two multi-level parking garages a block from the center of town. If you can't take the traffic you can ride the trolley or Regional high speed line into town. It is an "Andy Hardy" like main neighborhood with great neighbors. The blues, jazz, and Americana music strolls where multiple venues across town host bands for a single cover are events that you should make the trip into town. http://www.mediaborough.com/community/12th-annual-state-street-blues-stroll.

@vitaminpurple: Stupid comment. Media has 5,000 people, Philadelphia has nearly 1,600,000.

I miss the New Orleans Cafe. I miss Nora Lee's too. La Na is the truth and I like The Towne House.

Media's always been an under-travelled destination due to the high incidents of DUI's. God forbid if you have 2 drinks with dinner and leave the boro. Police in Media do their town a disservice by pulling everyone over. Would be easier to install breathalyzers in every restaurant. Go over the limit, you can walk yourself to jail.

media is, at best, an ok place. maybe 1 or 2 decent bars(quotations). ok food. (320 is very good but expensive). however, if you were blind and talked to a local you'd think you were in paradise. people are quite snobby and they have no reason to be.... jetdrive is right. probably more lawyers then cars in that town. if i want a a unique, great meal... whether it's lunch or dinner i still take the R3 downtown and hit my favorite , hole in wall, borderline hipster pubs.

Sligo's has the best drunken mussels. I wish The Iron Hill would install some noise absorbers, it gets so loud it's physically uncomfortable.

Wow.... beegal99. you are so right!!!! totally forgot about that. my bro ,sadly, got a dui coming out of media a 9:45 - 10 at night. he was on a date. had 3 beers in 2 hours. blew 1/10 over the limit. he was annoyed cause he was going 40 in a 25 going down the hill towards the granite run mall. (another annoying thing about that town). now i remember why i stopped going there.

JetDrive, I'm still trying to tell if your post is serious. I'm afraid to think that it is! What is your solution? Level the historic structures to build parking lots so lazy fat slobs like yourself don't have to walk more than 10 steps to go out to eat? You should just stick to your local Applebees.
