Magrogan opening 3 more restaurants

Dave Magrogan has 14 restaurants right now. He plans to open his 15th, 16th, and 17th by the end of the year, and has designs on opening three more by the end of 2015.

Not too bad for someone who has been in the restaurant business only about 11 years.

In three deals with Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, Magrogan plans branches of Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar in Moorestown and Harrisburg, plus a version of Stella Rossa Ristorante in Exton to be called Red Star Craft House.

The Harvest in Harrisburg, a 7,000-square-foot giant due to open in August, will join Williams Sonoma, Ann Taylor and Banana Republic at the Shoppes at Susquehanna Marketplace.

A 6,000-square-foot Italian restaurant called Red Star Craft House, inspired by his Stella Rossa but with some more American aspects, will add an outdoor bar and fireplaces to a spacious indoor restaurant at Exton Square Mall in October. The restaurant, specializing in wood-fired, brick oven pizza, appetizers and salads, will have 50 craft beers on draft and 100 bottled selections. (Of course, Stella Rossa means "red star.")

A 7,200-square-foot Moorestown Mall Harvest, up for November, will be next to Rizzeri Salon & Spa, and the soon-to-open Distrito.

Magrogan, a former chiropractor, got into the biz in West Chester in 2003 with Kildare’s Irish Pub; there are now five locations. In 2006, Magrogan launched Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House in West Chester; there are now four locations. Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar, featuring a sub-500-calorie menu, opened in Glen Mills in 2010 and since expanded to University City and North Wales. Stella Rossa opened in mid-2013 in Downingtown and was syndicated that fall to Center City.
