Mad River in Old City shuts down

POSTED: Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 12:48 PM
Filed Under: TableTalk

Mad River, which opened eight years ago in the old Middle East restaurant on Chestnut Street near Second in Old City and developed all the charm of a frat party, is dark.

A note from management on its website steers clientele to its Manayunk location.

State records show it paid a $1,000 fine for serving visibly intoxicated persons last month; the case originated in April 2011.

Update: The spot is being reconfigured into a craft beer/seafood restaurant called Craft & Claw.

There is a reason many business fail. If they turned off 2 of every three customers it was but a matter of time--sooner or later.

that place was a piece of dung. the "bros" always will have a home in philly - there are 10 bars just like this place.

philly needs to actually have door policies at nice places to keep the riff raff out. charge a cover and let hot women in free. thats the ticket to a hopping spot without idiots running around.

unfortunately philly can't accept that the concept works.
