Mike Strug packing it in

The NBC10 reporter's last day will be Friday.

Mike Strug, one of the few reporters who's worked for three stations in town, is spending his last week at NBC10, his TV home since 1990, a station spokeswoman confirmed. His last day is Friday. There will be sendoffs on the 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.

"I am happily stepping aside," Strug, 66, said, adding that he got a buyout offer a year and half before the end of his contract. He said he was "essentially retiring. Maybe I'll just become a newspaper reporter."

Seriously, he added, "I got to ride the wave of television when it was a good place to be. Now as things are changing,  it is not quite as much fun. The audience is fragmented a little more, and things are changing rapidly."

Strug, an Olney High and Temple grad who worked for Channel 6 (1966-1978) and later at Channel 3 (1978-1989), was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers' hall of fame last year.
