Lorenzo & Sons Pizza is on the way back

POSTED: Tuesday, March 5, 2013, 9:50 AM
The Philadelphia Fire Department was called to extinguish a fire at Lorenzo and Son's Pizza on South St., near 3rd St.. in Philadelphia on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. ( ALEJANDRO A. ALVAREZ / STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER ) (Philadelphia Daily News)

June 27, 2012, was a dark day not only for Giuseppe Pulizzi and his family, but for South Street revelers, too.

A fire tore through Lorenzo & Son's pizzeria on South Street near Third, and the Pulizzis found themselves facing the task of rebuilding the shop, which his pop, Lorenzo, opened in 1988.

Pulizzi told me today that he expects to reopen during the first week of April, with a grand opening to benefit Philabundance at the end of the month.

And though the slices will be huge as before (28-inch pies), there will be a few alterations from the family's traditionally quirky way of doing business.

He is considering selling potato chips and he is toying with the notion of toppings.

Toppings at Lorenzo's?
