Jury finds against Lisa Thomas-Laury
Michael Klein, Philly.com
Action News reporter/anchor Lisa Thomas-Laury did not sway a Montgomery County jury last week in her lawsuit against a doctor and Lankenau Hospital, which she had accused of failing to diagnose her rare nerve disorder.
The finding, announced Thursday (9/2), was for the defendants.
Thomas-Laury, 56, and her husband, William, filed the medical-malpractice suit against Dr. Clifford Pemberton and the hospital nearly four years ago. The Mayo Clinic diagnosed and treated her for POEMS, the complaint said.
She was out of work for 38 months before she returned to 6ABC, wearing leg braces, in January 2007.
Her attorney declined to comment on the verdict.

At least she was able to afford to go to the Mayo clinic. Many of us would not be covered by insurance or able to pay for that step. I'm glad she's well enough to return to work. Her husband worked as physician for the city health centers some years ago; if he had worked at the old Philly General, he many have been able to call upon some of our best docs here to diagnose her. The old PGH handled every conceivable problem that can be imagined. gb
Her husbands an MD. Why didn't he know. She should have sued him too. FrankRizzosGhost
Oh, it's not just news/sports and weather. It's really the Celebrity Hair & Plenty of Makeup Show. They're the most talented READERS in the Del Val. You think the average person could do it??? No way....they're celebrities baby!!!!! stoneman

Too many ambulance chasers...looking to suck the blood of our society. The Healthcare industry and Investment Companies support these leeches. Every case settles...We all pay for this........ donnow1
This is why we need Obamacare. An African-American woman did not get the medical care she needed and look what happened as a result. Republicans want people like her to get sick and die because they vote for Democrats, because Democrats are the only ones that care about women and minorities. Republicans only care about Wall Street, Big Oil, and Big Business. eldiablodelsol2009
@scars73: Dr. Laury has a practice in the Mt. Airy area. Several other articles about this suit have mentioned he's a physician. That makes him fair game for those who would ask: "If any doc could diagnose it, why didn't you?" Let's face it, a couple of their combined means is not likely to draw sympathy when suing a doctor for malpractice. You are right when you say nobody here knows all the facts of the case, but the 12 people charged with finding said facts ruled for the defendant. drbob1

"POEMS syndrome is so rare that physicians who do not have experience with the disease may miss the diagnosis. Physicians at Mayo Clinic have the skills and experience necessary to diagnose this rare condition. " FROM The MAYO Web site. And they actually sued over this ? At least the jury had the sense to thow it out. The doc and his insurer are still out the costs of fighting this idiotic suit. A loser pays rule is needed ala the UK and many other countries. The US legal system is a joke!!!!! RADDOCSJ

lawsuit happy society is out of control. smart lady with a husband doctor and access to the internet but still looks for someone else to blame, scapegoat. Should of had John Edwards as her lawyer to get a real "good guy" to represent her....losers, all of them! alsdkjk
If you don't have anything nice to say, why do you say it at all? How old are you people? And where does it say her husband is a doctor? I am not saying she is right or wrong, but none of us know any details. scars73- hulk0455, Funny, I couldn't agree with you more - unless you include getting rid of the senile, outdated anchorman as well. Actually I have you beat: I stopped watching Inaction Nooz well over 20 years ago.
the fact that her disorder was "rare" should have spoken volumes about her prospects for winning this case... tvalleras
Lisa Thomas-Laury is back on the air and I didn't notice? Oh wait, I stopped watching Action News two decades ago. Maybe if they change that outdated intro music I'll consider returning. hulk0455
The fact that her physician husband had no idea what was wrong, and the fact that she had to go to the Mayo clinic for the diagnosis should have told her she had no shot at winning. Doctors look for horses, not zebras. Good luck to Dr. Laury when he ever tries to get another doctor to ever do him any kind of favor, docs suing docs isn't something that engenders a ton of respect in the medical community. drbob1
It's tough to win a med mal case in the 'burbs. That's why I use only hospitals in Philly. StevenT
