Joncarl Lachman coming to East Passyunk

The Chicago-based former Philadelphia chef signs a letter of intent to open on East Passyunk.

Go ahead, look up the word Gezelligheid.

That's the southeast corner of 11th and Tasker Streets, across from Chiarella's and catercorner from the forthcoming relocation of Fond. PARC, headed by Sam Sherman, has been on a development tear lately; it also owns the building at 1911 E. Passyunk, where Will is.

Lachman, who grew up in Center City and Southwest Philly, left town years ago and worked for such luminaries as Ann Rosenzweig (NYC) and Nora Pouillon (DC) before landing in Chicago. He owns HB Home Bistro (which he plans to keep) and is getting out of his other place, Vincent.

Lachman describes Noord as New American with a Northern European focus; expect lots of smoked fish and a rotisserie.

Lachman told me that he comes back from time to time. "There's a palpable difference in the city," he said. "It's almost overwhelming." He loves East Passyunk and plans to live with his partner above the restaurant.

He hopes to open around April. But "that's as predictable as earthquakes," he said.
